Key Features
Complete Renovation of the Children’s Zoo requiring replacement of various domestic and exotic animal enclosures and shelters, support facilities. Development of a two acre site at the Bronx Zoo. Custom fabrication for animal shelters and enclosure, aviary netting, Recycled Composite Timber Decking (ACT), Custom Steel and FRP barriers, Synthetic resilient surfacing.

Project Conditions
Project site was located in a populated area of the Zoo. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic control was critical along with scheduling deliveries and removals to ensure area safety and maintain project schedule.

Description
The Children’s Zoo consisted of numerous animal enclosures and shelters within a two acre site. The pre- existing site consisted of concrete pavers and structures at the domestic animal area. Existing site and structures were demolished and replaced. Site utilities were modified for new layout. An existing 6,000 SF deck over river way was replaced with MCA framing and recycled composite timber. New pathways were provided; utilizing recycled synthetic surfacing, composite decking, and asphalt paving. All enclosures and surrounding areas were provided with custom steel and FRP barrier systems. Single Prime Contract Site Utilities, Site Demolition Dewatering, Earthwork, Asphalt, Recycled Composite Timber Decking (ACT), Concrete, Custom Wood Framed Structures, Fiber Cement Siding, Metal Roofing, Acrylic Roofing, Aviary Netting, Carpentry, Finishes, Custom Steel/ FRP/Glazed Fencing and Railings, Boardwalk, Site Furnishings, Mechanical, Electrical, synthetic resilient Surfacing, and Landscaping.
